HP Tuners uses a credit-based licensing system. Credits work like currency to purchase licenses for the different modules in a vehicle. Once a module is licensed, you can tune it.
How credits work
- Credit cost varies by vehicle and module.
- Many vehicles require 2 credits to license the ECM/PCM.
- Some vehicles may require additional credits for extra modules (e.g. TCM, FICM, CCM).
- You can view the full supported vehicle list and credit costs on the official supported vehicle page.
How vehicle licensing works
Vehicle licenses are tied to the:
- VIN
- PCM OS
- PCM Serial Number
If those values don’t change, the vehicle remains licensed on that interface and can be tuned indefinitely. One interface can store thousands of licenses and can be used to tune any supported vehicle.
Important: you don’t need credits to start
Once you purchase an MPVI 2/3/4, you can read, edit, and save files without buying credits. You only need to license a module when you’re ready to write a new file to the vehicle.
Remote tuning supported
MPVI 2/3/4 also supports remote tuning by sending tune files via email.
How to activate Universal Credits (MPVI 2/3/4)
- Download and install the latest version of VCM Suite.
- Connect your MPVI 2/3/4 to your laptop/PC.
- While connected to the internet, open VCM Editor and go to Help → Resync Interface.
Reminder: you must be online—this process also updates your MPVI 2/3/4 firmware to the latest version.
